“Work is not just a source of income”

Antonella Cardone, director of ECPC, explained the challenges faced by cancer patients and survivors to stay or get back to work in an interview with Politico.

“Policymakers are becoming more and more acquainted with the topic. From the employers’ side, there is still a huge gap in understanding … They look at it just as a cost, not as an opportunity.”

“If employers are not in a way forced or obliged … to support the return to work of a cancer patient, then they will not really help.”

The topic is even more vital when considering “Work also facilitates the recovery and the rehabilitation process, and it gives a sense of purpose.”
