Health and Research
ECPC promotes the concept of patients as co-researchers and the need for research projects to focus on patients’ priorities and aims to influence European Union research priorities to match those of cancer patients’ needs. Within research projects, ECPC uses its members’ fundamental knowledge and understanding of the patients’ situation.
The European Cancer Patient Coalition is one of the few cancer patient organisations actively involved in the design and implementation of EU-funded Health and Research projects, among other ongoing activities.
ECPC participates in the EU’s 3rd Health Programme, as well as several European Union Research and Innovation framework programmes: this includes the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) 1 and IMI 2 under Horizon 2020 (H2020).
We emphasise the importance of involving patients as co-researchers and strongly advocate the best partnership model between both researchers and patients, allowing patients to contribute their unique experience to work towards a more patient-centric study while participating in crucial project decisions.
ECPC’s participation draws on fundamental knowledge and understanding of the patients’ situation by working through our members. Our “in the field” engagement enhances ECPC’s capacity to truly represent patients at the EU level, providing irreplaceable first-hand understanding of the issues revolving around cancer patients, while allowing us to be at the forefront of scientific developments in cancer.
