Collaborations

English

Since our creation in 2003, we have established a series of key partnerships with fundamental stakeholders in order to maximise the impact of ECPC activities.

  • Cancer Drug Development Forum

CDDF greatly contributed to the development of one of ECPC’s most important projects, the Immuno-Oncology Portal, by providing key funding and via the expert opinion of CDDF Chairman Prof. Heinz Zwierzina.

  • European Alliance for Personalised Medicine

ECPC is a founding member of the Alliance and a key partner in the Alliance’s initiatives.

  • European Association of Urology

ECPC and the EAU embarked on the EAU Patient Information project on Bladder Cancer in 2015. This collaboration is based on patient feedback and is considered an important step in the development of patient information, bringing together two major players responsible for the dissemination of accurate information to cancer patients throughout Europe.

  • European Cancer Concord

ECPC and ECC collaborated in 2014 to launch the ‘European Cancer Patient’s Bill of Rights’, a patient charter that will underpin equitable access to an optimal standard of care for Europe’s citizens.

  • European Cancer Organisation

The European Cancer Organisation aims to reduce the burden of cancer, improve outcomes and the quality of care for cancer patients, through multidisciplinarity and multiprofessionalism.

As the not-for-profit federation of member organisations working in cancer at a European level, the European Cancer Organisation convenes oncology professionals and patients to agree policy, advocate for positive change and speak up for the European cancer community.

  • European Commission

Joint Actions are initiatives launched by the European Commission, where the aim is to increase collaboration between the Member States and progress the level of harmonisation. ECPC is a key partner in all Joint Actions related to cancer, including: the European Partnership for Action Against Cancer (EPAAC), from 2011 to 2014, the Joint Action on Cancer Control (CanCon), from 2014 to 2017 and the Joint Action on Rare Cancers, from 2016 to 2019 (ongoing).

  • EU Health Policy Forum

ECPC is a member of the EU Health Policy Forum which meets twice a year in Brussels. The overarching goal of the EU Health Policy Forum is to contribute to the development and implementation of actions to protect and improve the health of European citizens.

  • European Medicines Agency

The European Medicines Agency, created in 1995, is the agency of the European Union which evaluates new medicines. Kathi Apostolidis and Rafal Swierzewski are the ECPC representatives in EMA’s Patients’ and Consumers’ Working Party of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP). Their main task is to extend intensive cooperation between cancer patients and EMA, so that cancer patients are strongly involved in all possible procedures within EMA.

  • European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer

ECPC and EORTC collaborate on several topics of common interest, ranging from policy issues related to cancer to patients’ awareness and empowerment. In 2016, ECPC and EORTC jointly organised the second edition of the Cancer Clinical Research Methodology Course for Patient Advocates.

  • European Society for Medical Oncology

ECPC and ESMO have a long-standing history of collaboration. ECPC is represented within the ESMO Patient Advocates Working Group, which is responsible for the optimisation of patient care in Europe and worldwide, the continuous improvement in cancer-specific information and education, the strengthening of patient autonomy and the support for patient rights.

  • Organisation of European Cancer Institutes

ECPC has been cooperating with OECI since 2013. Both organisations are interested in finding solutions in order to reduce inequalities in cancer care among MS and cooperate in EU research projects. ECPC was glad to have been consulted about the new OECI standards for quality care and the designation system and labels. In September 2015, ECPC and OECI signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the longstanding collaboration.

  • Toxic Neuropathy Consortium

ECPC and TNC signed an official Memorandum of Understanding in May 2019 in Brussels. TNC aims at increasing the engagement of all relevant stakeholders to improve knowledge about and find solutions to the medical and social problems related to toxic neuropathies.

  • Union for International Cancer Control

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is a membership organisation that exists to help the global health community accelerate the fight against cancer. Since 2015 ECPC is a Full Member of the Union and kept close ties with the leadership to identify future areas of collaborations between ECPC and UICC in Europe and beyond.

  • Worldwide Innovative Networking

ECPC is one of 43 institutional members of the Worldwide Innovative Networking (WIN) Consortium in personalized cancer medicine. Established in 2010, WIN is a non-profit, non-governmental organization aiming to improve patient outcomes worldwide by increasing the number of patients accessing innovative, global clinical trials in the area of genomic-based cancer therapeutics.

  • The European Nutrition for Health Alliance

The European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) is a charity, established to promote and implement nutritional risk and improve nutritional care for all European citizens. ECPC and ENHA are partners working together to promote and implement nutrition risk and optimal nutrition care across Europe, create public awareness of malnutrition/undernutrition, share good practices and create innovation and improve education and training in nutritional care.
